Our Umi Hotel Brighton Review:
Situated on Brighton’s popular seafront, Umi Hotel Brighton offers guests clean, comfortable accommodation to suit a wide range of budgets. The residence features 77 rooms of different sizes, all with plasma televisions, en suite bathrooms and free access to the internet, and many have a view of the sea and air conditioning.
The building, which was originally put up in the 1850s, when it was known as The Belgrave, is within a few minutes’ stroll of the Brighton Centre, which regularly stages concerts, events and conferences, making the hotel ideal for those who have come to spend an evening watching their favourite musician as well as those who have come to town on business.
Brighton is well known throughout Europe for its eclectic, buzzing nightlife, and a room at Umi means that guests truly are in the thick of it. Oceana Nightclub Queuejumper tickets are available at reception to all guests for free. The beachfront location of the property means that guests are within a stone’s throw of restaurants, shops, Brighton Pier and the popular Lanes area. Other well-known attractions include the fabulously ornate Royal Pavilion and the stimulating Brighton Aquarium.
Although the Umi Hotel Brighton has its own bar where visitors are invited to enjoy a drink while watching the action on the promenade, it does not have a restaurant. However, helpful staff are on hand to recommend a range of nearby places to eat or they can make a priority booking for a table at the restaurant next door. Guests are permitted to use the facilities of a nearby gym for free.
Those wishing to shop during their stay are just two minutes’ walk from Churchill Square, which is the location of the town’s largest and best-known shopping centre. It is also worth exploring The Lanes area, where there are a large number of fabulous specialist boutiques as well as restaurants, delis and caf?s. The property’s proximity to the train station is an advantage for guests travelling to this part of the south coast without a car.
As with many hotels in Brighton’s entertainment districts, the Umi suffers from late-night noise as nightclub revelers make their way home in the early hours. With this in mind, it is worth requesting a room on one of the higher levels to guarantee a quiet night’s sleep in the hotel’s comfy beds. You may also want to time your visit for the warmer months as heating here leaves room for improvement.
The Umi Hotel Brighton doesn’t offer Brighton’s largest rooms and it is in need of a refurbishment, but for low-end accommodation in a premier location, it is hard to beat. This isn’t the place for a romantic break or a weekend of indulgence, but it is a good choice for comfort and convenient at a price tag that won’t dent your wallet.
